Located in Mississippi, USA, this commercial cafe project required a complete end-to-end architectural workflow—moving from initial spatial concept development and functional problem-solving to detailed interior design, custom 3D modeling, and high-fidelity rendering. The primary objective was to resolve severe physical constraints within the existing site footprint while establishing a distinct, dual-atmosphere hospitality experience. 1. Concept Development & Parametric Column Integration The central spatial challenge was two structural columns positioned directly in the main floor area. Rather than allowing these columns to interrupt circulation, the design concept integrated them as central focal points using custom parametric wood slat structures. These vertical timber fins fan out at the ceiling plane to create a canopy effect while serving distinct functional roles at ground level: Active Counter Hub: One column is enclosed by a built-in semi-counter with high-top bar seating for solo patrons and quick interactions. Lounge Anchor: The second column incorporates a custom circular banquette sofa at its base, introducing a central lounge typography. 2. Spatial Correction: The Diagonal Perimeter To address a stark diagonal main wall facing the counter bar, the interior layout utilizes a curved perforated (punch) metal header above the fluted wood service bar. This structural arc counteracts the harsh angle of the diagonal wall, drawing visual focus along a fluid path and establishing a balanced spatial sequence toward the point of sale. 3. Dual-Atmosphere Environmental Design Rather than maintaining a single ambient tone, the lighting and material palette were developed to offer two distinct spatial experiences within the same floor plan: The Sunlit Zone: Positioned along the window perimeter, featuring white exposed brick, light timber flooring, and structured quilted armchairs under natural light. The Intimate Grove: Set deeper in the floor plan, utilizing warm accent lighting, dark-toned textures, deep leather booth seating, and integrated mature olive trees to offer a quiet, biophilic retreat. 4. Spatial Sequence & 3D Modeling Through iterative 3D modeling, seating density was optimized to achieve high operational capacity without overcrowding key pathways. The spatial sequence seamlessly connects the high-energy ordering counter, quick-turn bar seating, and long-stay lounge areas into a unified, functional design.
